System requirements
Supported installer platforms and local requirements.
Installer platforms
| Platform | Published website support baseline | Architecture | Installer |
|---|---|---|---|
| macOS | macOS 15 or later | Apple Silicon and Intel | Pngr-macos-universal.dmg |
| Windows | Windows 11 | x64 Intel and AMD | Pngr-Setup.exe |
The macOS bundle declares a minimum system version of 12.0. That packaging declaration alone does not establish tested support on older macOS releases; the website advertises macOS 15 or later. Windows ARM64 and Linux installers are not included in the current release packaging.
The installers include the .NET runtime. You do not need to install .NET separately to run the packaged application.
Network and storage
You need access to the targets you want to monitor. DNS access is needed for hostnames, and Internet access is needed to check or download GitHub releases. A local target can be monitored without a cloud account.
Allow enough writable local storage for saved measurements. Pngr's history is held in its user-data directory, separately from the installed application. See history and storage for retention and maintenance settings.
The desktop window has a minimum size of 980 × 640 logical pixels. A display that comfortably fits that window makes the hop table and graphs easier to use.
Permissions
Installation on Windows is per user and does not require administrator access. Normal ICMP probing does not install a privileged helper or background service.
Windows TCP and UDP intermediate-hop discovery can require running Pngr explicitly with administrator permissions, because it uses a raw ICMP receiver. Without that receiver, endpoint monitoring remains available. Pngr does not elevate itself automatically. See protocol behavior.
Running from source
Development builds require the .NET 10 SDK. From the repository root:
dotnet restore TraceScope.slnx
dotnet run --project src/TraceScope.AppSource-checkout launches use artifacts/data rather than the installed application's user-data directory. Use --data-dir PATH to select a directory explicitly.
