Quick start
Create your first target and interpret the first measurements.
Monitor a target
- Open Pngr and select + beside All Targets, or New Target from the monitoring actions menu.
- Enter a hostname or IP address, such as
example.comor a device on your own network. - Leave the default ICMP configuration and 2.5 seconds interval for an initial baseline.
- Press Enter or the start monitoring button.
- Let several measurement rounds complete, then select a responding hop to inspect its history.
Use Configure Probe to change the protocol, port, timeout, source, and discovery settings. See probe configuration.
Read the results
The hop table reports responding addresses and statistics at each TTL/hop-limit position. The destination footer is based on an independent endpoint probe, so endpoint results can be available even when intermediate routers do not reply.
Look at destination latency and response loss first. A single intermediate hop with missing replies, followed by normal destination responses, is not confirmed forwarding loss. See understanding hops.
The historical graph lets you compare spikes and gaps over time. Saved measurements remain available after you stop or close a target.
Pause, stop, or start again
With an empty target input, the main monitoring button pauses or resumes the selected running target. The adjacent monitoring actions menu includes Stop Trace, Restart Trace, Reset Statistics, and Close Target.
- Pause temporarily suspends new measurement rounds.
- Stop Trace ends the session.
- Restart Trace creates a new session with the target's current probe settings.
- Reset Statistics clears cumulative counters while keeping saved measurements.
- Close Target removes the tab and stops its monitoring; saved history is retained.
Closing Pngr stops all monitoring. It does not leave a monitoring service running.
